Swiss Permits

As of April 2, 2025, all Swiss and EU citizens, including children and babies, must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK for short stays. This applies to tourists, business travelers, and those visiting family or friends.

Who is exempt from the ETA?

An ETA is not required for travelers who:

    • Hold a valid UK visa
    • Have permission to live, work, or study in the UK (including pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme)
    • Are British or Irish citizens (must prove eligibility with a valid passport)
    • Are British Overseas Territories Citizens (BOTC) traveling with a BOTC passport
    • Live in Ireland and are traveling from Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man

Key details about the ETA:

    • Cost: £10 (approx. CHF11 / €12)
    • Validity: Up to 2 years or until passport expiry
    • Application opens: March 5, 2025
    • Processing time: Usually within 3 working days, but often faster

Important: Passengers transiting through the UK also need an ETA, even if they do not enter the country.

What to do next?

Travelers should plan ahead and apply for an ETA well in advance to avoid any last-minute disruptions. Stay updated on the latest UK entry requirements to ensure a smooth journey.
